היא ללא ספק אחת מיצירות המופת שהלחין הגאון יוהאן סבסטיאן באך (1685-1750). ביצירה זו שבאך התחיל להלחין ב-1740 ולא השלים, הוא לוקח נושא פשוט ברה מינור ומפתח אותו באופן קונטרפונקטי בכל דרך אפשרית היצירה נכתבה בחמשות נפרדות עבור כל קול ולא צוין כלי מסוים. עד כה היא בוצעה על ידי מגוון רחב של כלי נגינה, הכוללים צ’מבלו, עוגב, פסנתר, תזמורות מודרניות וברוקיות, רביעיית כלי מיתר, מחשב, גיטרות, כלי נשיפה, חליליות, סקסופונים, ויולים וכלי מיתר בארוקיים. למעשה, אחד הדברים המהנים הוא לבצע את היצירה בכלים שונים, וכך לחשוף היבטים שונים שלה. אף פעם לא יימאס לנגן או להקשיב לה בגלל כל האפשרויות המרובות שלה בנוסף, לאמנות הפוגה יש קסם, פן מיסטי, כמעט אזוטרי שאי אפשר לתאר במילים. אפשר לומר בביטחון שזו זכות אמיתית – לכולנו – לנגן את המוזיקה הזאת
The Art of the Fugue (Die Kunst der Fuge), BWV 1080, is without a doubt one of the masterpieces composed by the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). In this work, begun in 1740 and left incomplete, the composer takes a simple theme in D minor and explores it in counterpoint in every possible way.
Written in separate staves for each voice, the work was not assigned to any specific instrument. It has been performed by a wide variety of instruments, including the harpsichord, organ, piano, modern and baroque orchestras, string quartet, computer, guitars, brass, recorders, saxophones, viols and baroque strings. Actually, one of the fun things is to perform the work in different instrumentations, and thus reveal different facets of it. One can never get tired of playing or listening to it, with all its multiple possibilities.
In addition, the Art of the Fugue has a magical, mystical, quasi-esoteric charm which is impossible to put into words. One can say with confidence that it is a real privilege – for all of us – to play such a music.
